A slogan about women in government is a starting point, not a policy test. My carousel compares Giorgia Meloni’s record with the immigration proposals of Alice Weidel and Marine Le Pen.

One governing record, two opposition platforms
The comparison distinguishes a leader exercising government power from politicians seeking it. A proposal is not an implemented policy, and election results measure support rather than proving that a policy works.
My carousel highlights Meloni’s emphasis on irregular migration controls, the AfD’s proposed border and return measures, and Le Pen’s proposals on entry and family reunification. The purpose is to examine concrete positions rather than assume that a leader’s sex predicts the quality of government.
What the charts measure
The Italy chart compares recorded sea arrivals in 2023 and 2024. It is a measure of arrivals, not total immigration, asylum decisions or removals. A fall between two years does not isolate the effect of one politician: enforcement, departure-country policy, routes and other conditions can all matter.
The Germany chart compares the AfD’s federal second-vote shares of 10.4% and 20.8% in 2021 and 2025. The France chart compares Le Pen’s presidential runoff shares in 2017 and 2022. These are different electoral systems and should not be treated as identical performance measures.
My conclusion
I judge politicians by the evidence behind their policies, the results they can demonstrate and the trade-offs they acknowledge. The same scrutiny should apply to supporters and opponents alike.
